Born from the ashes of AKG's Vienna closure, Austrian Audio emerged in 2017 with a mission to honour their legendary heritage whilst pushing the boundaries of microphone innovation. Founded by former AKG staff, this Austrian company has created something truly special with the OC818 – a multipattern dual output condenser microphone that combines traditional craftsmanship with cutting-edge wireless technology.

At the heart of the OC818 lies the handmade CKR12 ceramic capsule, meticulously crafted to match the critical dimensions of the finest legacy CK12 capsules that Austrian Audio could source and analyse. This large-diaphragm condenser features microprocessor-controlled polarisation voltages and dual analog high-pass filters with three settings, maintaining a purely analog signal path throughout.

The OC818's standout feature is its integration with the PolarPilot app for Android and iOS, offering wireless control over polar patterns, high-pass filtering, and pad settings via Bluetooth™. Users can discover and create 255 discrete polar patterns, save their favourite configurations, and share settings with others. The dual outputs allow recording of each diaphragm separately, whilst the frequency range spans 20Hz to 20kHz with 275-ohm impedance and 48V phantom power requirements.
